4th of July weekend

We enjoyed beautiful weather here in NYC for the July 4th holiday weekend.  For the first time in years, the fireworks show was held on the Hudson river a few blocks from home.  Gabby was sleeping peacefully as the fireworks lit up the sky!  Although if she were awake we imagine she'd make a face like the one on the far right...

Happy July 4th!

How I spent my first Father's Day

What a gorgeous Father's Day morning in sunny Manhattan Beach, CA!  We had a busy first Father's Day.  We spent the prior evening in LA at a friend's beautiful wedding (while Aunt Barbara watched our sleeping beauty - thanks Auntie!) and stopped at the beach on the way home.  We then visited Great-Grandma Chang one more time before hopping on a plane to Seoul for 12.5hrs.  Aside from a screaming session when we tried to put Gabby to sleep in the airplane bassinet, we lucked out and Gabrielle was a good girl on the flight.  Just one more return flight to go...!

My great-grandmothers

Gene & I are fortunate enough to have 3 grandmothers for Gabrielle to visit - ages 97, 94 & 86.  Seeing Gabrielle in our grandmother's arms has been priceless and the reason for our travels.  Our first stop was LA, were we met Great-Grandma Hong (Gene's maternal grandmother) and Great-Grandma Joy Chang (Michelle's paternal grandmother).  We're now in Seoul, Korea visiting Great-Grandma Song (Gene's paternal grandmother).

Hello from L.A.

Greetings from our first true blog-on-the-go (reporting from sunny California).  Happy to share that Gabrielle was a rockstar on her first cross country flight!  It was a mommy & me adventure and thankfully one filled with less surprises than expected.  Aside from an initial flare up when we introduced Gabby to her new bed, she's been adjusting wonderfully and I'm grateful for my 7 hours of sleep last night.  Gene arrives in LA tomorrow and we'll all head to Seoul together (phew).

Don't try this at home kids, but our little pre-flight play session was on a (clean) cafe table

Getting ready for my first airplane flight & more

We're getting ready for our first travel adventure with Gabrielle.  First up, a short(ish) flight to LA to visit Great Grandma Chang and our west coast family.  A few days later we'll be taking a deep breath as we board a flight to Seoul, Korea to visit Great Grandma Song  Gabrielle has been doing so beautifully with her schedule & sleeping progress that we're going to attempt to stay on NYC time while we're away.  I can hear you all laughing already... ;)  Wish us luck!

Gabby is all set to travel with her new passport!

Other exciting news from this week is Gabby showed off her grabbing skills & hand coordination.  Until now her hands have typically been balled up in tiny fists.  A few days ago she showed us how she can grab her friend, "Giraffey."

Look at those fingers go!                                                 Gotcha!

Happy 100 Days!

We celebrated Gabrielle's 1st 100 Days  today.  It's a Korean tradition to celebrate when your baby reaches 100 days because in the olden days it was a good sign that your baby was going to survive.  For us, it's a nice excuse to get together with family and eat Asian-style fresh fruit & cream cake!

Gabrielle has been "sleeping through the night" (11:30p-7a) for about a week now!  She's all smiles in the morning - here's a peek at her from a recent morning.  If mommy oversleeps Gabby happily plays by herself for a few minutes...

First night in my own room

Until now Gabrielle has been sleeping in her stroller bassinet in our room.  She was quickly filling it up and even started the habit of reaching up and holding onto the sides of the bassinet.  Last night she made the big leap to her own room and crib.  Although she woke up at 4:30am & broke her 4-night run of 6-7hours of sleep (!) she's adjusting wonderfully.  Gene & I are the ones who have to get used to her being in her own room.  Thank goodness for video baby monitors!

Happy Summer!

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day Weekend (for those of you who are in the US!) and nice start to the summer.  Gabrielle got out and enjoyed the beautiful weather.  Here's some highlights:
